Ahead of Schedule

Back in October when I decided to plan out my novel for NaNoWriMo, I was partly doing it because of having a story I wanted to do justice, and partly as an experiment in plotting versus pantsing.

I was interested to see if having a plan actually had a positive effect on my word count. Bizarrely (at least it’s bizarre to my mind) it does seem to have helped somewhat.

NaNoWriMo: Oops… I plotted

NaNoWriMo Participant 2014

National Novel Writing Month ( NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought fleetingly about writing a novel.

That’s what encouraged me to sign up for NaNoWriMo many moons ago. I can’t remember how many years ago it was, but I know my triplets were only tiny, so it has to be about 6 or 7. I loved the idea of going Hell for leather into the unknown with only a computer to guide me (which in those days was a second hand iMac I bought on eBay and picked up in Harrogate while taking the kids to see their grandma).
