University and NaNoWriMo

It’s almost time for NaNoWriMo again; about 19 days by my calculation. And this year, in addition to working, I’ve also got University to fit NaNoWriMo around! Glutton for punishment? Maybe. But this is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and having done a taster course earlier in the year, it seemed like a good idea.

So, here I am, studying for a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing¬†through the Open University. What I’ll do with it if I graduate remains to be seen; possibly teaching or, at the very least, running writing workshops. I’d like to be able to use it to encourage the underprivileged to embrace the English language as a tool for fun as well as for work, so that’s something to hold on to while I’m slogging through my course!

I plotted again (it’s becoming a nasty habit)

Rather unusually, I’ve already done all the prep for NaNoWriMo for this year. Most of the outline was finalised before my kids went back to school, so I’m not going to be cramming that in at the last minute when I have all my university stuff to do. I’m not entirely sure how NaNoWriMo is going to fit in with five hours work, three school runs, one/two hours study, eating, sleeping and everything else per day (not school runs on weekends, obviously), but I’m sure I’ll be able to make it work.

Almost forgot to mention that last year’s NaNoWriMo novel is out now. Actually, it’s been out a couple of weeks, but I keep forgetting to mention it – I really do care about it, especially since I’ve wanted to write it since I was in my teens, but with everything else going on in my life at the minute (kids, university, flu-like symptoms again…), it has a tendency to slip my mind. No, DVD drive, you can’t hide now! I need you for my University course!

Now, I’m going to sit here patiently and wait for Amazon to turn up with my new external DVD drive, because my old one has decided to be mysteriously absent (along with mostly knackered), right when I need it for university study type things. Because you know I won’t be using it to watch DVDs when I should be working/studying. That would be irresponsible.

PS: If anyone knows of a good way to get an Amazon wishlist onto WordPress, I’d be eternally grateful. I can’t get the Amazon widget builder to work, and all the plugins I’ve found for WordPress just chuck everything in a huge list – not great if you have over 30 items on the list!
