I know, I know. I should post more. But it’s been a pretty busy year, and updating a blog nobody reads isn’t really high on my list of priorities most of the time. Anyway, now that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the shitty attitude of people who refuse to write properly on the internet.
I know I’m not the only person who’s come across someone who knows they’ve written something incorrectly – on Reddit, for example – but refuses to correct it. You know the type; they tend to follow up with “it’s just the internet, it doesn’t matter.”
These people are assholes of the highest order. They suck. And they don’t care about anybody else but themselves. Do you know how you can tell? It’s because they say that it doesn’t matter because it’s just the internet. They have no respect for anybody else who has to read their badly written garbage.
You see, not everybody on the internet can read perfectly. Someone trying to read their crap might have dyslexia. They might have difficulties with their vision. There are countless reasons why someone might not be able to understand what is being written.
And that’s not even coming close to how technology would parse what they’ve written. I have a friend who’s registered blind, and she relies on a screen reader. Even the best screen reader in the world can’t make head-nor-tail of some of the absolute crap people write with the excuse that “it’s just the internet”. And what about non-English speakers? How is a translation algorithm supposed to translate garbled nonsense?
So if you ever find yourself writing garbage, and you know it’s garbage, don’t use the excuse that “it’s just the internet, so it doesn’t matter”. If you do, you’re being an asshole.
Sorry for the rant, but it really bugs me when people argue that there’s no reason to write coherently on the internet.
In other news, I’ve started streaming FFXIII on Sundays. Nobody seems to be hanging around even though I know they’re turning up, probably because I can’t for the life of me get the mic on my headphones to work with my Xbox. It works fine on my MacBook, PC and PS4, but the Xbox is being a bit of a dick.
The VODs are up on my YouTube channel, if you feel like checking them out. Also, if you feel like coming and hanging out on a Sunday when I’m streaming, I’d be glad of the company.
